Scientific Notation
To write expanded numbers in scientific notation N = u . d d d × 10P with only the units-digit
to the left of the decimal and all others following the decimal. → The power P is the position power
for the left-most nonzero digit of the number N.
Example 1:
Express expanded form numbers in scientific notation:
a) 8,756 = 8.756 × 103 in scientific notation..
To write scientific notation number u . d d d × 10P = N in expanded form place the units-digit
in the the position power for the number N with all others following, filling with zeros to the decimal.
Example 2:
Express scientific notation numbers in expanded form:
b) 9.43 ×105 = 943,000
